On Tuesday, June 6, 2017, Superintendent Ron Taverner updated the media on a shooting investigation.
It is alleged that:
– on Sunday, April 23, 2017, the victim and another male attended the 1800 Martin Grove Road area
– the two males arrived in a red SUV and parked in front of 1811 Martin Grove Road and engaged in conversation with several people hanging around the area
– at approximately 6:07 p.m., the victim exits the SUV and is seen speaking with the suspect
– the two men walk away from the group by themselves and continue in conversation
– the victim turns away from the suspect and is seen retrieving something out of a handbag
– at the same time, the suspect brandishes a firearm and both attempt to shoot each other
– the victim falls to the ground, having been shot several times in the lower body area, and the suspect flees into the complex area
– the driver of the SUV tends to the victim lying on the ground, who hands the driver what appears to be a handgun with an extended magazine
– the driver takes the handgun and places it inside the vehicle, then assists the victim back inside the SUV
– the driver and victim flee the area in an unknown direction
It is further alleged that:
– at approximately 6:25 p.m., police receive a second radio call to the underground parking lot at 345 Dixon Road, for reports of a male who has been shot
– officers arrived on scene and located a male in the underground parking lot who matches the description of the victim in the shooting at 1800 Martin Grove Road
– the victim was treated for apparent gunshot wounds and taken to hospital
The suspect is described as male, black, light complexion, 20-25, 5’8″-5’10”, with a heavy build, black braided hair, and a thin beard.
It is further alleged that:
– the driver of the vehicle has been identified as Liban Hussein, 22, of Toronto
– he is wanted for several outstanding firearm-related offences
He is described as black, light complexion, 5’10”, 220 lbs., with short black hair, clean-shaven.
Investigators will be seeking assistance with the identification of one suspect. Security camera footage can be viewed on YouTube.
