On December 26, 2025 – Boxing Day – me and three buddies braved a full-on winter storm in the Toronto area to pull off an insane stealth camp and cook. Environment Canada had warnings out for heavy snowfall (8-15 cm across the area ), bitter cold around -4°C to -5°C with morning wind chills down to -17°C, and wind gusts up to 50 km/h whipping through, creating blowing snow and tough visibility.
We started with a snowy hike, scouting the perfect hidden spot. The rest of the crew showed up, and we battled the elements to set up an emergency shelter and get a fire roaring against the howling wind. Then came the best part: cooking up juicy steaks, eggs, and rice with my super moody 30 year old Whisper light stove !!
!Plenty of good laughs, stories, and even a surprise Christmas gift exchange to keep spirits high. We hung out until it got dark and the storm raged on, then hiked back out under the night sky.
This was winter stealth camping at its most extreme – major storm conditions, but totally worth it for the adventure!
